FUND RAISING GARDEN PARTY AT ‘ERW GRAIG’ MERTHYR MAWR

HOME OF LIVERYMAN DEREK AND MRS ANNE MORGAN

On 16th June Liveryman Derek Morgan and his wife Anne hosted an excellent Garden Party at their beautiful home in Merthyr Mawr. They must have looked out of the window that morning and been worried about the inclement weather as it was wet and cold. However, right on cue at the start of the party, the rain stopped, and the sun shone, making its own contribution to the success of the afternoon.

The Master opened the event welcoming nearly 90 Liverymen, guests and friends including Alun Cairns MP, Secretary of State for Wales, High Sheriffs past and present and 10 Past Masters of our Livery Company.

Attendees came from near and far – USA to USK !!

During the afternoon a prize draw and silent auction, organised by Stuart Castledine, were held thanks to the generosity of those who had donated prizes and auction lots and a total of approximately £1500 was raised. This will be added to the Silver Jubilee Appeal Fund which, the Master announced, was already standing at £18,000.

It was heartwarming to know that the monies raised will be used to further our Livery objects of helping the younger people of Wales, through our Awards programme, as they start their careers in Arts, Science and Technology.

All present agreed that the refreshments provided were quite outstanding in quality and quantity – a great credit to those who had put a huge effort into the preparation and presentation of delicious food.

The Master concluded the event by thanking Derek and Anne, in particular, for hosting the Garden Party and all those who had contributed to making it such an enjoyable social occasion.
