SILVER JUBILEE ANNIVERSARY DINNER AT LINCOLN’S INN LONDON

On Thursday, 19th April 2018, the Silver Jubilee Anniversary Dinner was held in the Old Hall at Lincoln’s Inn, the Inn of Court of which I have been a member since my student days and where I am still practising as a barrister at 5 New Square. The Old Hall was built in 1490 and is the finest building in the Inn; it is the middle building in the picture below.

The event was to commemorate the founding of the Welsh Livery Guild in 1993 and, in particular, the two Court meetings held at Cardiff University on 17th and 24th April that year when the first hundred or so Liverymen were admitted to the Guild.

The event took place on a beautiful summer’s evening, so the pre-dinner reception was held in the garden to be seen in the picture just across from the Old Hall where the 118 Liverymen and their guests assembled and enjoyed the first warm day for months.

The Silver Jubilee dinner was planned to take place in London in recognition of the close links we have developed over the last twenty-five years with many of the London Livery Companies. We were honoured by the presence of representatives of fifteen London Livery Companies, including three Masters (the Master Actuary, the Master Butcher and the Master Solicitor) as well as a former Lord Mayor of London. Moreover, we now have a substantial number of Liverymen who live in London and have formed a ‘London Group’, many of whom were able to be present.

After dinner, the toast to the Company was proposed by the Rt Hon The Baroness Andrews of Southover, OBE, FSA.

LAUNCH OF THE SILVER JUBILEE FUND-RAISING APPEAL

The Company launched the Silver Jubilee fund-raising appeal on the occasion of the Company's CHARITY SPRING LUNCH PARTY held on 18 March 2018 in the Arts Centre at Atlantic College, St Donat's Castle. The appeal is addressed to major companies, trusts and institutions in Wales which have an interest in education, inviting charitable donations and financial support with the aim of augmenting our Charitable Trust Fund by at least £100,000. At present, we receive applications for support from more young people than we are able to assist. Augmenting our funds will enable us in future to increase the number of awards we are able to give annually. Liverymen were asked also to make personal efforts in their local communities to raise money for the Silver Jubilee Fund. For full details of this campaign see the Silver Jubilee page on the website.

On Thursday 15 March 2018, the Western Mail published an article about the Company's Silver Jubilee celebrations and fund-raising appeal together with profiles of five of our past Award Winners across two pages of the Newspaper. I am delighted that the article has drawn attention once again to our activities.
